AVID

Advancement via Individual Determination (AVID) has been adopted by Early College High School as a system to drive the success of our students. Visit avid.org to find out more!

Mission Statement: AVID’s mission is to close the opportunity gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

Each year that students are enrolled in our rigorous program and on track to earn an associate degree from Western New Mexico University, they need support and skill building, AVID provides that method of support and best practices for our students and their academic growth.

AVID utilizes a system called WICOR that stands for an emphasis on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Rigor.

Before we were able to implement AVID, we called this support system College Advancement. Therefore, AVID will be a formal elective course all students are required to take. The course will include 50% of the time focused on an AVID curriculum of college readiness strategies and 50% of the time for students to learn how to facilitate study groups supporting the dual credit class students are currently enrolled in.

Ninth graders will receive AVID support each week on Tuesdays in one - 9th grade class with Dr. Rachel Bailey.

Early College High School is incredibly excited to be a certified AVID school and support students through their aligned system of best practices.
