Daily Bell Schedule
The Early College High School will have a 4 X 4 Block schedule with 90 minute class periods. Each class will be one semester long. Having only 4 classes to focus on each semester allows students to dig deeper into the content and it also matches the college schedule.
Buses will run from the DHS hub over to the Early College High School and back. School will end at 3:25pm to allow time for bus students to get back to the DHS hub.

More Benefits of an Early College Program
An “Early College High School” is being created by Deming Public Schools to provide a challenging academic program in a smaller setting for students who want to get a head start on their future. This is how it will work: Students will complete core required credits during their first two years of high school and then take only dual credit (college) classes their last two years. The goal is to graduate from high-school with a head start on a college or career-tech pathway and have an associate degree by the time they graduate high school. There are over 20 early college high schools state-wide and it is time that Deming has the same opportunities to succeed as other communities. We may be small, but we have big hearted students with big goals and it is time to raise the bar with an Early College high school. We are accepting applications now for the fourth class of 50 rising 9th graders. I know you will have lots of questions, and so I am including more details below and my contact information. Please call, come by, or attend one of the public events and forums we hold over the coming months. I look forward to visiting with you soon! Respectfully, Bryan Simpson Principal, The Early College High School Deming Public Schools firstname.lastname@example.org 575-543-1643 Ext. 4201
The Early College High School Q&A
Q: What is the purpose of the new Early College High School? A: The purpose of The Early College High School will be to provide a challenging academic setting where all students complete core high school credits during the first two years and engage on a college level career technical or academic pathway and graduate with an Associate Degree or other industry recognized certificate.
Q: Who can sign up? A: Any rising 9th grader who wants to take on the challenge has the grit to come every day and work hard to reach their goals.
Q: Where will it be located? A: The school will be housed in the complex of classrooms that is currently unused during day time hours at the Mimbres Valley Learning Center, 2300 East Pine Street.
Q: How big will it be? A: It will start with a cohort of 50+ students and 4 teachers the first year. The school will add a new cohort of 50 each year until they reach the level of 200 students.
Q: Will there be Busing? A: Yes, busing will be provided to and from the Mimbres Valley Learning Center.
Q: Will I get college credit for my classes? A: The first two years are regular, honors level, high school core requirements. After that all your classes will be Dual Credit. This means you get both high school and college credit for the same class. All college credit will be through Western New Mexico University and will be General Education Core Credit, meaning it is transferable by state law to any New Mexico university, college, or junior college.
Q: Will I be able to play sports? A: Students will be able to participate in all sports and extra-curricular programs with Deming High School and enroll in Major Sports 7th hour at DHS.
Q: Who will the teachers be? A: Probably teachers you know already. Staff positions have been posted on the DPS website and we are in the process of hiring 4 teachers.
Q: Do I have to be a straight A student? A: No! The only requirement is that you are willing to come every day and work hard. These will be Honors level classes and you must be up to the challenge. But the purpose of the Early College High School is to support students who have the “grit” and desire to go to college but need a little support and structure to get there.
Q: Who do I contact for more information? A: Principal Contact Information Bryan Simpson Office: 575-543-1643 Ext 2730 Cell: 575-545-3807 Email: email@example.com Office at Mimbres Valley High School, 720 Buckeye Street.

Activities with DHS
Students may participate in activities at DHS when this does not conflict with Early College High School classes. In some cases the parents may have to provide transportation between the two schools. The student must work out an agreement with the coach or sponsor.
Parents must realize that if a student chooses to use their Elective credit for Band, Choir, Major Sports, etc, that this may prevent the student from earning an Associate Degree. The pathway to earn the Associate is very tight and students must stay on track to reach the goal. During their Junior and Senior year students must realize that college classes do not excuse absences for high school activities. The policy at WNMU is that after a student misses 3 times the student may be dropped from the class with no credit given.
The Early College High School is determined to be flexible with students to allow participating in DHS activities, but parents and students must look realistically at the limitations.
Major Sports: ECHS ends for the day at 3:25pm so students may leave a little early to participate in Major Sports at DHS. (or other activities with a 7th period section)
CNA Program: ECHS students may enroll in the Health Care Science/Certified Nursing Assistant program with Mary Anderson during their Junior and Senior year. This program consists of two college classes NUR 106 and NUR 107 and prepares the students for the CNA test which may be taken once they turn 18.

On March 9, 2023, Deming High School administration received information late in the day of a possible hazing incident. The District is thoroughly investigating the incident and has notified local law enforcement so they can complete their own investigation.
To date, the District has concluded that hazing did not occur, however, proper disciplinary measures were enforced for violations of the District’s Student Code of Conduct, Board Policy, and Employee Handbook. In accordance with applicable state and federal privacy laws, specific details related to discipline will not be disclosed. The law enforcement side of this incident resides with local authorities.
We ask for the public’s support in not spreading inaccurate information. PSA: Safety Construction at Schools
In our ongoing commitment to safety, Deming Public Schools (DPS) has begun construction on secure vestibules at several school sites. The secured vestibule is an enclosed area between the outside door of a building and the inside door. This area is where a visitor completes their business with the school without being given access to the interior of the school. DPS continues to prioritize the safety of our schools and secure vestibules are another layer of security measures being taken in alignment with best safety practices.
The following schools will be affected by this construction:
·Bataan Elementary, (575) 544-0900
·Bell Elementary, (575) 546-9712
·Chaparral Elementary, (575) 546-0247

PSA: Transportation Announcement
Deming Public Schools wants to inform the public that today, April 26, 2023, Bus #S63 which is a sub for Bus #70, was involved in a traffic accident during the morning bus run. Local law enforcement, Deming Public Schools Staff, and EMS arrived quickly on the scene and assessed the situation. No one was hurt and parents of the students on the bus are currently being contacted.
Parent and Community Update on the Lockdown at Deming High School
Deming High School was put on lockdown today, April 20, 2023, after administration received a safety concern from a student of a possible gun on campus. The facts of the situation are as follows:
During a routine safety drug sweep of the Deming High School campus, the school was placed in ‘shelter-in-place.’ Deming Public Schools routinely performs safety drug sweeps at our schools using a K-9 unit and, during any sweep the school will shelter-in-place to ensure no one leaves the campus. During today’s sweep, several students began to text one another about a gun on school grounds. Another student reported the safety concern to an adult in the building and the school was immediately placed in lockdown, along with surrounding buildings. Local law enforcement was called to assist. No gun or weapons were found on campus.
Student safety is our first priority. Deming Public Schools (DPS) takes all allegations, threats, and reports of safety concerns very seriously and fully investigates them. During an active investigation DPS will only share information that we can legally disclose and will share the information when it will not cause another safety concern for our students. Please check that your contact information is correct in the parent portal on infinite campus. Parent Portal Link:https://demingps.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/deming.jsp Notices are sent to the primary contact for students in infinite campus, posted to the district website, emailed to local media and staff, as well as shared on the district’s twitter, Instagram, and Facebook social media pages.
Deming Public Schools urges parents and guardians to talk with your children about false reports, unsubstantiated allegations, and spreading rumors. Please urge them to use their best judgement when sharing District news. Misinformation and rumors create chaos and fear that disrupts everyone’s education and sense of safety for the entire community.

PSA: Warning Live Streaming Internet Scamming
The New Mexico Activities Association wants to warn the public about a growing trend in internet scamming. There are hundreds of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube events being promoted, sometimes within prominent online groups, that appear to be real live streams, but are phishing for your personal information, and sometimes trying to install malware on your device.
These posts appear to be legitimately scheduled live streams and be associated with a high school or state association. However, when you click on the link, you are typically asked to enter personal information in order to gain access to the video. These are fake. Do not enter any information.
The NFHS Network is the official video streaming platform of the NMAA. Many of our member schools are utilizing this platform for their own broadcasting needs. However, during the regular season, many schools have decided to use other entities to do their live streaming. Please check with your local high school athletic department for the correct location to watch your favorite team safely. Cats Network is the only live streaming platform used for Deming High School home events.
When on social media, the NMAA maintains a single official account on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms. The official account for each platform is: @_NMAA for Twitter, AllThingsNMAA on Instagram, and New Mexico Activities Association on Facebook. Some scammers use the NMAA or NFHS logos and other marks to try and deceive you, but there is only one official account for each platform controlled by the NMAA and no sport-specific accounts will be created or used to promote our events.
To protect yourself and your fans from these fake accounts, please verify you are only sharing/posting/retweeting information from our official accounts. The links in our posts AND the link on our profile/bio will ONLY link to the NFHS. If you come across a fake account, please report it by following the platform-specific instructions below.
